Fire in SBI building in Srinagar

A fire in the main branch of the State Bank of India (SBI) complex today damaged a structure housing residential quarters and three security barracks but timely action saved the main building of the bank, officials said.
The fire was caused by a short circuit and was noticed by security guards at the complex around 0300 hours at Residency Road in the heart of summer capital Srinagar, a spokesman of the Fire and Emergency Services department told PTI.
He said timely action by the department restricted the fire to a building housing the residential quarters. The blaze was doused within an hour.
"We pressed 17 water tenders, one sky lift and 13 fire engines to put off the fire under the joint supervision of Joint Director R K Hak and Deputy Director M A Dar," he said.
The spokesman said the roofing, bedding and furniture in the first floor and attic got damaged due to fire while the ground floor was mostly damaged due to water.
He put the estimated loss in the fire at Rs 2 crore.
Three security barracks also suffered damages in the fire, he said, adding that no one was hurt in the incident.
