A destructive wildfire on the outskirts of Yosemite National Park that is threatening some 2,500 structures has grown to more than 38 sq kilometres and forced the shutdown of one access road into the west side of the park.
The blaze, which started on Saturday, had already destroyed two residences and five outbuildings and forced the evacuation of the community of Buck Meadows.
The US Forest Service says State Route 120 was shut down in both directions, blocking traffic in and out of the park. The park remains open and visitors can use State Route 140 and State Route 4. The blaze is burning in remote, steep terrain and there is zero containment.
The cause is under investigation.
