Firefighting equipment worth lakhs of rupees stolen from Kochi

Firefighting equipment worth lakhs of rupees have been stolen from Kerala's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium here, which hosts international sports events in cricket and football.

V Salim, Chairman of the Greater Cochin Development Authority (GCDA), which manages the largest stadium in the state, said the matter had been reported to the police.

Police said thieves had made away with firefighting equipment including several couplings and branch pipes worth Rs 4.6 lakh from the stadium.

The equipment made of brass were installed in 2017 when the stadium hosted the FIFA Under-17 football World Cup.

An investigation has been launched to nab the thieves, police said.

The thieves are suspected to have struck the stadium in different times between August last year and July this year, police said.
