Six years after it was made, the first Bengali film to be entirely shot in US, Rituparna Sengupta-Rupa Ganguly starrer 'Piyalir Password', with the musical score by Pt Bickram Ghosh, was premiered for its own audience.
"We are releasing the film in Bengal as a tribute to director Raj Basu who was forwarding enough to think about such a story and location in those times," Rituparna, the female protagonist Roopa on screen, said about the suspense thriller, on corporate conspiracy and medical ethics, set in the heart of Maryland.
"(Late) Director Raj Basu had seriously wished the film be unveiled in public domain. He would have been the happiest person today, but I know he is among us," Rituparna said about the film which comprises an international cast apart from Tolly veterans Sabyasachi Chakraborty and Kaushik Sen.
"Turning up in films like Piyalir Password or Abosheshe can always be a cathartic experience for an actor. I enjoyed the shooting part, happy that despite Raj's death, Piyalir Password could be completed and released," the national award winning actor Rupa said on Thursday's screening.
"We all miss Raj's presence. As a debutant director he had an amazing sense of music and happy to see how my scores fitted with the frames," percussionist-Aborto music director Pt Bickram Ghosh said.
With its post-production wrapped up after Raj's death by Rabiranjan Moitra, the 2008-film Piyalir Password was mostly shot in Maryland, Virgina, and Washington DC.
