The city recorded 66.8 mm rainfall in six hours between 8.30 am and 2.30 pm, which was the highest intensity of rainfall this season here, regional Met director G K Das said.
There is possibility of light to moderate rain in the southern districts of West Bengal, including Kolkata, during the next two days.
The Met department has, however, warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next three days in the north Bengal districts of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Jalpaiguri, Coochbehar and Alipurduar.
Traffic congestions were witnessed at many places owing to the water logging, leaving home-bound school children stranded for a long-time before they could reach their destination.
