"With Bengali films getting global profile, we must blend glamour with aesthetics, to recreate perfect ambience for show-biz. If production companies can be launched in this way in Mumbai why not here!," director Ujjwal Chatterjee said after models, attired in coloured cotton sarees, strutted on the ramp one after another depicting three days of Bengal's biggest festival at a five star hotel.
"This is the perfect setting for the launch of a production house in Bengal, named Ashtami Films and what better way than blending the ethnic, the heritage with the chic and contemporary," Chatterjee, whose Escape from Taliban had been feted in film festivals years back, reasoned.
"If Bengali films are increasingly being screened abroad and award ceremonies taking place, that shows we are rich in content and again have to keep pace with the world show biz mecca as well," he said.
Asked about the announcement of the release of his movie 'Swabhoomi', based on a Mahasewta Devi story on the issue of subalterns, Chatterjee said "the movie could not be unveiled and seen light of day in a more opportune time."
"It will also be released by the same production but I need to record one more song in the present situation," he said.
"It is a taking off phase for Bengali films. I am happy to be here," Rituparna said.
