"Despite civilisational contacts between India and Egypt, contemporary exchanges, especially in the academic field had been limited," said Ambassador Sanjay Bhattacharyya during the commencement of the first Indian Chair at Ain Shams University last week.
"When we offered to establish the first Indian Chair in Egypt at Ain Shams University and provide one of our leading scientists to build the foundation of a new partnership, the dynamic leadership of the University responded promptly and provided the most congenial environment for making this a reality," he said.
The Indian Chair will be for a period of three years and will be extended on mutual agreement.
"We have entered a new era in academic cooperation. We shall promote exchange of faculties, students, research, curriculum and more, thereby building new bridges linking our emergent societies and providing new opportunities to our youth," the Ambassador said.
The MoU for establishment of the Indian Chair was signed in March 2016 between the University and the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) and operationalised in September 2016.
