First Kohima Documentary Film Festival inaugurated

The first Kohima Documentary Film Festival commenced here today with the screening of some internationally acclaimed documentaries at the state academy auditorium.
Director of Art and Culture Nagaland, Vevo Sapu inaugurated the festival organised by Guwahati-based Film and Cultural Society of North East in association with Indian Documentary Producers' Association and supported by Government of Nagaland, Polish Institute and Japan Foundation.
Documentaries related to social consciousness as well as economic and cultural issues would be screened during the festival.
Convenor of Nagaland Chapter of Film and Cultural Society of North East Maningbiliu Pamei said festivals like these are important as it helped to create general awareness about exceptional movies.
She said the festival would present a gateway for movie-goers to learn more about film-making and build up understanding of different issues which relates with society.
Nearly 15 award winning national and international documentaries from all over the world would be screened in this festival, which would go on till November 5.
Prominent filmmakers and resource persons from countries like USA, UK, Netherlands and Sri Lanka would be interact with students of different institutions on online platform and encourage them about film making.
