First SSB team scales Mt Everest

A first-time contingent of border guarding force SSB today conquered the world's tallest peak Mount Everest marking the golden jubilee celebrations of its raising.
The contingent, first of the force to scale the 8,848-mt l summit, was flagged off on April 2 by Union Home Secretary R K Singh from here.
Five members of the squad, led by their commander Somit Joshi, reached the peak at about 0945 this morning and unfurled the national flag and the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) colours.
SSB chief Arun Choudhary complimented them over satellite phone for the feat.
SSB, established in 1963 in the wake of Chinese aggression, is celebrating golden jubilee of its raising this year.
The squad, equipped with modern mountaineering gadgets, went up the peak from Nepal side after extensive mountaineering training at domestic peaks in the country before embarking on this maiden mission.
The squad will be flagged in here in the first week of June.
SSB guards the 1,751 km Indo-Nepal border and the 699 km frontier with Bhutan and is also the lead intelligence gathering agency on these two frontiers.
