A 23-year-old fish merchant was gunned down by unidentified bike-borne assailants in Ghazipur area of East Delhi, police said today.
The incident took place at around 10:45 PM yesterday when the deceased, identified as Faizan was seated in his car and was about to return home after purchasing fishes from the Ghazipur fish and poultry market area.
"As per eye witnesses, he was sitting in his Wagon R car when two bikers approached him and pumped several bullets into him," said a police official.
He was rushed to Lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. A case of murder has been registered at Ghazipur police station and investigations have been initiated in the case.
"The motive behind the murder seems to be personal rivalry as the assailants made no attempts to rob him. Eye-witnesses said that they even had a brief word with him before opening fire," said a police official.
Initial investigation suggested that at least four bullet injuries were found on his body, two on forehead, one in hand and one on chest. Police is waiting for the post-mortem report for detailed information.
During investigation it was also learnt that CCTV cameras installed in the market were not functioning.
Locals alleged that the crime took just a few meters away from police barricades which were unmanned during the time of the incident.
