Fisheries Dept official caught taking Rs 20,000 bribe

Lokayukta Police today arrested Assistant Director of Fisheries Department here while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 for granting permission for construction of a pond for rearing fish.
The official, identified as Abdul Rasheed Qureshi, had demanded a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a farmer Ram Manohar Dahayat of Uncha village in Panna district, Lokayukta Inspector K K Agrawal said.
"The farmer later tipped-off Lokayukta police about it, following which, a trap was laid and when Dahayat went to his official residence to pay Rs 20,000 as first instalment to Qureshi and he was caught red-handed by the Lokayukta sleuths," the inspector said.
A case under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the official in this regard, he said, adding, further investigation into the matter is on.
