The incident took place yesterday in South 24 Parganas district, about 100 km from Kolkata, when Narayan Mondal (42) was fishing in a creek with two other fishermen.
The tiger, hiding in the forest sprang on him and dragged him away. His companions tried to save him but in vain, the officials said.
They informed the forest department and personnel from it rushed to the jungle searching for the man, who was, however, not found, department officials said.
Incidentally, the fisherman's father Sundar Mondal was killed by a tiger several years ago in a similar incident.
