Sindhudurg District Collector Uday Chowdhary confirmed the news.
Fisherman Muneer Mujawar found the fish in his net when he was returning to the shore.
"The fish is around 20 feet long and weighs around 700 kg. It is known as sawfish, because of its nose extension lined with sharp transverse teeth," Mujawar said.
He said that it was rare to find such fish in the net. "When I found the sawfish, it was already injured. It must have tried to escape from the net," he said.
Sindhudurg is the southernmost coastal district of the state. Vijaydurg is famous for dolphin sightings.
