Family members of five Tamil Nadu fishermen, sentenced to death in a drug trafficking case by a Sri Lankan Court, and representatives of fishermen association would meet state Chief Minister O Panneerselvam tomorrow to press for securing their release.
A delegation of the association and family members led by Ramanathapuram MP Anwar Raja of AIADMK would meet the Chief Minister and request him to take steps to get the death sentence set aside and bring back the fishermen, officials said.
After the court verdict on October 30, the fishermen resorted to sporadic violence damaging buses and the railway track and blocking the road traffic.
However, after District Collector K Nandakumar held talks with them and assured action to get the release of the fishermen, they withdrew their agitation.
