Fishermen starts venturing into sea after end of trawlling ban

Fishermenstarted venturing into the sea in mechanised trawlers after the annual 60-day ban on fishing ended today.
The Governments of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry had imposed the ban under the provisions of the Deep Sea Fishing Regulations Act, 2001, on April 15.
Under this Act, engine propelled trawlers were not allowed for fishing activities during the ban period. However catamaran and fibreglass boats are exempted from the ban.
Till last year (2016), the ban period on fishing had been fixed as 45 days. This year, it had been revised as 60 days.
