Zameer Ahmed, Kapil Chaudhary, Anubhav Khandelwal, Vipin Kumar and Brij Mohan Verma were arrested recently based on inputs given by six persons who were apprehended by police earlier.
During investigation, it was found that five cheques amounting to Rs 3 crore approximately of Herbal Research and Development Institute (HRDI), Uttarakhand had been encashed by gang members.
Zameer was first arrested by the police after which others were also apprehended.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that the cheques of different banks received in State Bank of India, Shastri Nagar Branch, Meerut were taken out of the bank through Brij Mohan Verma, an employee in the said branch, by Kapil Chaudhary.
"These original cheques were scanned and stored in digital form which have got the vital information i.E. Account details, signatures, stamp used, cheques series issued by the bank to the account holder," a senior police official said.
Then blank signed fake cheques were generated by the gang members which were passed on to different persons through their contacts for getting them credited into different bank accounts.
