Five people were arrested for allegedly firing at a couple while they were dining at a hotel in suburban Govandi, police said today.

The incident happened early today, at around 2am, when Rakesh Sonawane and Shweta Pande were dining at Orange Mint Cafe, an official said.

The two were not hurt in the incident, the official added.

Police said that Sonawane and Pande had purchased a car from Navi Mumbai-based Nitin Ahuja.

Police said that the couple, residents of Sion Koliwada, were allegedly not paying Ahuja as per the agreed schedule and this angered Ahuja.

Ahuja arrived at the hotel along with his wife and a few friends, and in the midst of an altercation, fired two rounds from his firearm, police said.

The gunfire caused panic among those present in the vicinity and it also attracted a patrolling police squad which arrested Ahuja and his friends, the official added.
