The men were working at godowns in Bhiwandi where the handsets sourced from various mobile phone manufacturers are packed and sent to the online retailer firm which in turn delivers them to public, a Narpoli police station official said tonight.
The five accused allegedly stole 267 high-end mobile phones valued at Rs 24.43 lakh during October 2017 to January 2018, he said.
The firm, an online platform, the accused were working form takes orders for the online retailer, and the men are tasked with packaging the mobile phones and delivering them to the e-tailer, the official said.
The five persons have been booked under section 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust) of the IPC on a complaint filed by the online delivery firm, police said, adding that nobody is arrested so far.
Recently, a 26-year-old software engineer from Navi Mumbai claimed to have received a detergent bar instead of an iPhone-8 which he had ordered from an online portal and made full payment.
On his complaint, a case of cheating was registered against the e-tailer concerned.
