Two policemen, including an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), were today suspended for alleged dereliction of duty in connection with the theft of 18 red sander logs from the premises of a police station in Vontimitta town.
Three other policemen, who were posted at Sambepalli police station, were also suspended for their alleged involvement in red sander smuggling, a police officer said.
"ASI Obaiah and constable Ramana were suspended for negligence in discharging their duties as 18 red sander logs had been stolen from Vontimitta police station last week when they were on duty," Kadapa District Superintendent of Police Naveen Gulati told reporters in a press conference here.
The action was taken based on an inquiry report filed by Kadapa DSP Ashok Kumar, he added.
Head constable Murali Mohan Raju and constables Mohan and Narendra posted at Sambepalli police station, were suspended for their alleged involvement and association with red sander smugglers, he added.
"The trio had supported the smugglers in transporting red sander logs from Dudyala and Yerramorampalli villages in recent times," Gulati said.
The SP added that three constables were transferred from Rayachoty police station for their alleged involvement in red sanders smuggling and for having links with the smugglers.
Meanwhile, police sources said that anti-red sander smuggling special teams have taken two constables into custody for their alleged involvement in smuggling and they were being interrogated in this connection.
