"Seven women had gone to the dam for bath, of whom five were drowned, while two others were rescued," assistant fire official in Surendranagar Ramesh Gosai said.
The deceased were identified as Shanti Shankar Koli (25), Laxmi Bharat Koli (24), Sonal Shankar Koli (19) Puja Babu Koli (17) and Arti Pravin Koli (17), Gosai said.
The bodies were fished out from the dam and sent to civil hospital for post mortem, he added.
