The incident took place late last night, Joint Commissioner of Police D J Patel said.
"Members of the two communities clashed in the communally-sensitive Fatehpura locality by pelting stones, leaving four police personnel, including a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and a local resident injured," he said.
The angry mob set two-wheelers and tyres on fire, Patel adding, "police fired 20 teargas shells and rubber bullets to control the mob".
Playing music during a marriage procession triggered the violence, he said.
