At least five people were injured in firing during a clash between two communities on Holi at a village here, police said today.
Five people have been arrested and cases registered against them for violence in Tulheri village under Miranpur police station last night, they said.
The incident occurred when members of two communities were engaged in Holi celebrations, a police official said.
A quarrel broke out between members of Jat and Dalit community. Some of the people were drunk and soon there was stone pelting and firing from both sides, police said, adding that some old enmity was behind the clash.
On receiving the information, senior police officers rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control, he said.
The injured who sustained bullet injuries have been shifted to a local hospital, he said, adding, Police Armed Constabulary (PAC) teams have been deployed in the village.
