Five killed in blast in Jalpaiguri, six injured

Five persons were killed and six others injured when a bomb kept in a moving bi-cycle exploded this evening a little distance from St Pauls School near Jalpaiguri town.
"As of now five persons have died in a bomb blast at Bajrapara near the Jalpaiguri town. The explosives were laden on a bicycle. It went off on the culvert over a small river," Shashikant Pujari, IG North Bengal, told PTI.
The incident happened at Bajrapara area at around 7 pm.
"We have launched an investigation. We are yet to ascertain whether it is a terrorist attack or a carrier was carrying explosives and it went off accidentally," said Pujara.
The SP Amit Javalgi said today was the martyr's day of the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO) and December 28 is its foundation day.
Javalgi said the police was trying to ascertain if the attack was linked to the KLO.

"It can be assumed that the person or persons riding the bicycle were among the dead," he said.
The bicycle lay mangled in the middle of the culvert.
Dr Susanta Ray at the Jalpaiguri Sadar Hospital where the injured have been admitted said some of them were in a critical condition.
North Bengal Development Minister Gautam Deb said that the government would not tolerate this sort of activity and it would be dealt with sternly.
The dead have been identified as Lalmohan Debnath, Anjan Roy, Pappu Rehman, Rashidul Islam and Arnesh Hussain.
