Five members of a Gujarat family die in suicide pact

Five members of a family - including three women - allegedly committed suicide by jumping into a canal near here, while a male member who also tried to end his life was saved, police said today.
The incident, which appears to be a case of suicide pact, took place at Thol Road in Kadi taluka of this district late last night when members of the family along with minors jumped into the Narmada main canal, they said.
According to police, one Dharmiben Chaudhary (43), her husband Bhurabhai (47), daughters Parvati (27), Hariben (22), and Parvati's three-year-old son and a toddler daughter jumped into the canal.

Bhurabhai, however, was saved by the locals, while the others drowned, Kadi taluka Police Sub-Inspector M R Gameti said.
The family hails from Morkha village in adjoining Banaskantha district, he said.
Police said they are yet to ascertain the reason which compelled the family members took the extreme step.
