Acting on a tip-off that an inter-state gang have plan to commit dacoity in Bistupur locality, a special police team was formed on the directive of the Senior Superintendent of Police, Amol V Homkar to arrest the criminals, said Superintendent of Police (city) Karthik S.
Addressing a press conference here, Karthik said the special team launched a search operation in the Gadabasa locality and intercepted a four-wheeler (Bolero) bearing Odisha's registration number last night, which was also confiscated.
All the five members, who were travelling in the four-wheeler, have been arrested, Karthik said adding that the kingpin of the gang, Amit Shah alias Keshri Gupta, a resident of Hedbarda village under Barlanga police station of Ramgarh district, was accused in 24 cases including murder, dacoity, loot and arms act and wanted in many other cases.
The arrested persons were on their way to execute the plan and commit dacoity in the jeweller's premises last night, where they expected to extract cash and ornaments worth in crores, Karthik said.
