Five minor boys, including two brothers, drowned in a small check dam in Aniyali-Kathi village of Ranpur taluka in neighbouring Botad district today.
Investigation revealed that the boys, aged between eight and 12 years, misjudged the depth of water, which resulted in their deaths, Ranpur police sub-inspector M L Zala said, adding that these boys were returning home from their school.
He identified the deceased boys as Vanraj Shekhalia (12) his brother Ravi (9), Vishal Dafda (8), Tushar Zafda (8) and Tushar Makwana (8), all residents of Aniyali-Kathi village.
"At around 4 pm, we received a call from a local that some boys drowned in a small check dam in the village. Upon reaching there, we found five bodies. All of them were friends and returning home after attending primary school," he said.
"We believe that these boys entered the water to take a dip. However, they may have misjudged its depth and eventually drowned. We have sent the bodies for postmortem and started investigations," he said.
