A local court today acquitted five persons of a family of the charge of killing a police constable last year due to lack of evidence against them.
Additional Sessions Judge Afsar Javed Khan acquitted Mahavir Singh (48), Sajjan Singh (25), Ravindra Singh (20), Devendra Singh (35) and Manmohan Singh (20) of section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence) of IPC for want of evidence.
However, the judge directed the Indore Superintendent of Police to take disciplinary action against three police constables for dereliction of duty for leaving Sandeep Singh Bais (36) alone, which led to his murder.
"The material on record proves that the conduct of police constables Pankaj Yadav, Vijendrasingh Parihar and Vikas Singh Jadon has been highly suspicious, lax and against duty in Bais murder case," he said.
The court directed the SP to take disciplinary action against the trio and submit the action taken report (ATR).
Bais was killed with jagged-edge weapons at bypass road under Kanadia area here on the intervening night of February 25-26 last year when he had gone to bring under control unrest caused due to a collision between two trucks.
The constables accompanying Bais allegedly left him at the troubled spot alone and the victim was found dead on the bypass road next morning.
Two juveniles are being tried by the court concerned in connection with the case.
