Five photo journalists beaten up by medical college students

Five photo journalists were injured in an attack by students of Agartala Government Medical College Hospital here today.
The incident took place when the photo journalists were taking photos inside the hospital after the death of a a woman, the police said.
Her relatives had brought a charge of negligence against the hospital's medical staff and had informed the media of it over phone.
The medical students angry over the journalists' presence went on a rampage and beat them up severely besides damaging cars and motor bikes parked in front of the hospital and throwing bottles of petrol at them, the police said.

The situation was brought under control by a large contingent of police and paramilitary which rushed to the spot.
The photo journalists were later admitted to other hospitals and released after treatment.
A delegation of Agartala Press Club met Health Minister Tapan Chakraborty and Information and Higher Education Minister Bhanu Lal Saha and demanded punishment of medical students who attacked the photo journalists.
The ministers assured that the incident would be inquired into, Sujit Chakraborty, Secretary of the Press Club said.
