At least five workers were injured in a fire caused by blast in an AU (atmospheric crude distillation unit) of the Gujarat Refinery at Koyli village near here, an official said today.
"The incident took place last night during a shutdown operation in AU no 2. It is a normal process of the AUs which is done for annual maintenance purpose," P T Solanki, Incharge of the Human Resources department of Gujarat Refinery, told PTI.
No casualty was reported in the mishap. It took one hour for five fire tenders of the refinery and the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) to douse the fire, he said.
Of the five injured, four workers who sustained burn injuries have been admitted to one hospital, while one other with fractured limb has been admitted to another hospital, police said.
A committee has been appointed to probe the incident, he further said.
There are a total of five AUs in the refinery, which is owned by the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC), and the operations of the other four AUs have not been affected at all, he added.
