Flood situation in Bihar improves

Barring three blocks in Purnia district, the flood situation in Bihar has improved, the Disaster Management Department said today.
Only 18 villages of the district, spread over three blocks Baisa, Baisi and Amour, remain flooded, it said in a statement.
Ghaghra and Koshi rivers are still flowing above the danger mark in Gangpur-Siswan area in Siwan and Baltara in Khagaria districts respectively, while the flow in other rivers has ebbed below the danger mark, the department said.
There were reports of damage to 245 kutcha houses due to floods, while 139 boats have been pressed into service for rescue and relief works. Four medical teams have been stationed for treatment of sick people in the flood-affected areas, while five cattle camps are operational.
The state government has distributed 8,890 quintal of gram, 1,613 quintal of jaggery, 9.91 lakh litre of kerosene, 60,080 polythene sheets and 2.46 lakh food packets among the flood-affected people so far, it said.
The flood in the state has affected 14 districts, and claimed 95 lives so far.
