Customs sleuths arrested a flyer for allegedly dumping 7 kg of gold biscuits in a toilet at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here, an official said today.
The authorities could, however, recover only 5 kgs of the consignment as remaining 2 kgs of the biscuits were flushed down the toilet and are untraced, he said.
In a joint operation, the officials of customs and Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) arrested one Faisal who landed here from Muscat yesterday, the official said.
On a tip-off, the sleuths monitored the movements of Faisal who had brought gold biscuits weighing 7 kg and dumped them in a toilet fearing arrest.
"We had information on a passenger trying to smuggle in the gold and we were keeping a watch. In the meanwhile, this passenger dumped the gold in toilet and we traced the gold. However, out of the 7 kg gold biscuits, only 5 kg was retrieved while the remaining 2 kg was flushed away," the official said, adding efforts were made to retrieve it but it has been lost.
An airline employee was also questioned in connection with the gold seizure but was let off, the customs official said.
