Focus on guidelines to make vannamei farming a success:Experts

Precautionary measures and fulfilment of all guidelines are essential for making the farming of Litopenaeus Vannamei, an exotic shrimp variety, a success in Kerala's particular brackish water conditions, according to experts.
They were talking to farmers at the state-wide training programme on prospects of vannamei shrimp farming, organised by Kerala University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies.
The experts and scientists from the Coastal Aquaculture Authority, Chennai (CAA) Central Institute of Brackish water Aquaculture (CIBA), MPEDA, CUSAT and KUFOS reassured the farmers that the careful farming of the vannamei shrimp would help them earn big profit and asked them to shed scepticism about venturing into the farming of the exotic species, which is in high demand in foreign countries.

S Mani, Assistant Director of CAA, explained the importance of following the precautionary procedures strictly for making good production of vannamei.
"CAA will issue license to the farmers without hesitation if they follow the regulations and formalities. The farmers in Kerala can apply for the license through KUFOS," Mani said.
I S Bright Singh from CUSAT said scientific feed management was needed to increase the production in vannamei culture.
KUFOS Vice Chancellor B Madhusoodana Kurup said the University would stand as a bridge to connect farmers and the Coastal Aquaculture Authority for availing the licence to start the vannamie farming in the state.
