Focus on modernisation of police force in UP: Home Secretary

Denying allegations that law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh has gone out of hand, Chief Secretary (Home) Rakesh Bahadur today said state police was being modernised and over Rs 12,000 crore has been approved by the state Assembly for the purpose.
Addressing a press conference after a meeting with administration and police officers of the division, Bahadur said,"law and order is a continuous process and district magistrates and police superintendents are doing their work."
He told reporters that process of modernisation was in the process.
"A sum of Rs 12,400 crore has been approved by the state Assembly for modernisation of the police force in the state," the officer said.
With the availability of money the modernisation of the force would start yielding results, he said.
The Centre was also being requested to provide funds for the police force, he said.
Bahadur also said that families of the policemen who died while performing duty will be taken care of.
"The government was doing all it could to look after the families of policemen who had died while performing their duty," he said.
A L Banerjee, Director General of UP Police, also addressed the conference and said steps will be taken to ensure communal harmony specially during the upcoming festival season.
He however parried a question on the state of law and order in UP.
