Fog blinds Punjab, Haryana

A thick blanket of fog engulfed entire Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh even as the minimum temperature rose up to a few notches in the region.
Low visibility due to dense fog affected air, rail and road traffic in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh, officials said here.
"The entire Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh remained engulfed under dense fog reducing visibility to just a few metres," the MeT office said.
However, the minimum temperatures in the plains of Punjab and Haryana hovered between four degrees Celsius above normal to three notches below normal, the MeT office said.
Hisar was the coldest place in the region with a low of 3.5 degrees Celsius, which was three notches below normal.

While Narnaul braved a low of four degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, both Bhiwani and Amritsar recorded a temperature of 5.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.

Among other places, Ludhiana settled at a low of six degrees Celsius, one notch below normal, followed by seven degrees Celsius at Patiala, 7.3 degrees Celsius at Karnal, 8.8 degrees Celsius at Chandigarh, four notches above normal and 9.1 degrees Celsius at Ambala, two notches above normal.
The dense fog delayed many trains by several hours and air traffic was also disrupted in the region. While, motorists had to move at a snail's pace due to low visibility.

The MeT forecast drop in night temperatures in the region during the next two days.
