Fog obscures visibility in UP, 3 dead in mishaps

The last day of the year dawned with a blanket of thick fog resulting in poor visibility in Lucknow and a few other districts of Uttar Pradesh, claiming three lives in separate incidents.
After a brief let up in the past couple of days, people were greeted with chill in the air this morning with heavy fog in some parts of the state.
In road accidents caused by poor visibility, two school children were killed as vehicle carrying them rammed into a stationary truck in Tarwa area of Azamgarh and a 28-year-old woman was fatally hit by a speeding vehicle while she was crossing the road in Haldi area of Ballia, reports here said.
Reduced visibility slowed down vehicles on highways, though later in the day the situation improved, but bright sunshine still eluded.
A MET official here said that weather was dry over the state with dense fog at isolated places.
The lowest minimum temperature over the state was 4.1 degrees Celsius, recorded at Muzaffarnagar, they said forecasting that shallow to moderate fog would occur at few places over the state and dense fog at isolated places.
