A thick layer of fog engulfed Kashmir today leading to poor visibility and affected air and road traffic even as the day temperature in most parts of the Valley has dipped over the last few days.
The Met Office has forecast similar weather conditions for tomorrow and wet spells later in the week due to western disturbances.
Many parts of the Valley witnessed dense fog in the morning. It led to traffic jam as motorists drove cautiously due to poor visibility.
The fog affected air traffic as flights to Srinagar Airport were either cancelled or delayed.
"The first flight which arrives at 8 am has been cancelled. All other flights have been delayed," an official at the airport said.
The Meteorological Department here said the fog was a result of sudden dip in the temperatures and condensation of water droplets in the atmosphere.

"This is a normal phenomenon in northern part of the country during time of the season," Director MET Office Kashmir, Sonam Lotus told PTI.
Lotus said the Valley may witness foggy conditions tomorrow as well. "We will witness fog tomorrow also, but it will decrease once there is a wet spell," he said.
The official said a Western Disturbance (WD) would impact Kashmir later this week and the Valley could witness wet weather.
"The WD would impact on 26th or 27th of this month and there is every chance of rains in the Valley. However, there is no possibility of heavy snowfall this month," Lotus said.
The day temperatures have decreased over the last few days as the Valley is bracing up for winters.
While the maximum temperature on Saturday was 15.2 degrees Celsius, the mercury recorded a maximum of 12.5 degrees Celsius yesterday.
The minimum temperature in the Valley also has been hovering around one degree Celsius for the last few days, while the mercury in Kargil and Leh towns of Ladakh region has already plunged below the freezing point.
