This was the advice given by Finance Minister P Chidambaram to budding Indian Revenue Service (IRS)--Customs and Central Excise--officers.
Addressing the 63rd batch of IRS (C and CE) officer trainees on Tuesday at the Parliamentary Library Building here, the Finance Minister broadly outlined the expectations of the society from the revenue officers.
He advised the officers to follow the path of rectitude and resist temptations in their career, stating that many civil servants have followed such a path to personal success and satisfaction, an official release said today.
The Finance Minister noted that the officers have been selected through a stringent and rigorous process from thousands of aspirants.
"This opportunity to contribute to the task of nation building is accorded to very few and the officers, while pursuing their careers must dedicate themselves to nation building," Chidambaram said.
He exhorted the officers to imbibe the passion for good governance.
