Food grains production increased by 8.1 per cent

Despite difficulties faced by the farming community, the country's food grains production in 2016-17 increased by 8.1 per cent, Tamil Nadu Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr K Ramasamy said today.
THe foodgrains production increased to a record high of 271.98 million tonnes. It was a great achievement despite all the difficulties farming community face today and it may be attributed to the Scientists of KVK who desperately working with farming community at the field level, he said.
He was inaugurating a two-day symposium on "Front line Extension Program for Realizing higher Productivity and profitability in Farming.
The symposium is being organised with Subject Matter Specialist (SMS) and Program Coordinator of the 82 Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) (Farm Science Centre) from Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala,, Goa and Puducherry.
