Foodgrains output revised upwards to a record 264.77 MT

Foodgrains production during the last crop year ended June has been revised upwards marginally to a record 264.77 million tonnes on the back of all-time high output of wheat and rice.
Releasing the 4th Advance Estimates of crop production in the 2013-14 crop year (July-June), the Agriculture Ministry said: "As per the latest estimates, India has produced 264.77 MT of foodgrains during 2013-14 compared to 257.13 MT in the previous year."
Good monsoon last year helped achieve record output in many crops.
Wheat production has been revised to 95.91 MT as against 95.85 MT in the previous estimated released in May this year. Similarly, rice output has been raised to 106.54 MT from 106.29 MT pegged in May.

In the previous crop year, rice production stood at 105.24 MT and wheat at 93.51 MT.
Record production has also been achieved in the case of tur (3.29 MT), gram (9.88 MT) and all production of all pulses together is pegged at production (19.27 MT).
Similarly in the case of cotton the record production has been seen and estimated at (36.59 million bales).
Previous production records in total foodgrains, rice and wheat were achieved in 2011-12 crop year at 259.32 MT, 105.31 MT and 94.88 MT respectively.
