"A new welfare scheme has been launched, for the first time, under which foodgrains shall be provided to all welfare institutions of the state on BPL rates," Akhoon said yesterday at a function in central Kashmir's Budgam district.
The Centre has allocated an additional quota for ration in the current financial year for distribution among welfare institutions under the scheme, he said.
"The foodgrains shall be distributed to Orphanages, Bal Ashrams, Nari Niketans," he said.
The ration will also be provided to Gujar Bakarwal, Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe hostels and other welfare institutions run by the Social Welfare Department.
At the function, Akhoon appreciated the services being rendered by JK Yateem Trust and said the government will encourage such orphanages, Bal Ashrams, and Nari Niketans by providing them basic facilities under norms.
The minister also instructed the CAPD Director to fix the LPG and Kerosene quota for these institutions and ensure its delivery so that their inmates do not face inconvenience.
