Ashima Chibber, the director of Yash Raj Films' 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti', says she found her career in films by a stroke of serendipity.
Being the daughter of professor parents, the academic field was viewed as a natural choice for the Hyderabad girl until she took up a job in a cinema hall.
"I completed my MA and went to the UK to pursue a course there. I was a good student. During the same time, I took up a job in a cinema hall. It was then when my interest in films grew. I got influenced towards film world," Ashima told PTI in an interview.
Ashima says though she has no Bollywood connections, cruising in films is an eventful experience for her as she worked as an assistant director in films like 'Pyaar Ke Side Effects', 'Chak De India', 'Rockstar' and others.
"After assisting Imtiaz Ali in 'Rockstar', I was somewhere sure that I wanted to direct. I was talking to industry people and meeting them for work," Ashima said.
Ashima's watershed moment came when Yash Raj Films approached her to direct 'Mere Dad Ki Maruti'.
