"US dollars worth Rs 44.18 lakh and crude gold worth Rs 10.50 lakh were seized," a Customs official said.
In the first case, AIU officers intercepted Sayyed Ali, resident of Karnataka, who was to board a flight to Sharjah. He was found to have hidden bundles of US currency worth to Rs 44.18 lakh in his socks and a trolley bag.
Ali, who was subsequently arrested, told investigators that the currency belonged to one Salim from Dubai.
Premchandani had been booked for carrying foreign currency worth Rs 11.96 lakh in 2015 too. Further probe was on.
