A delegation, consisting of members from several countries, today visited village Munak in Haryana's Karnal district and evaluated implementation of the literacy mission there.
The 18-member delegation examined in detail the implementation of the literacy programme being run in village Munak since 2010, an official release said.
The members said the state government's initiative to make people literate was commendable and they would also try to implement this in their respective countries.
Additional Director, Haryana Secondary Education, Sumedha Kataria told the delegation the mission was aimed at educating illiterate people above 15 years of age.
Under the programme, over 4,000 classes were being run in about 2,962 villages in 10 districts, she said.
There was a considerable increase in literacy rate in the state after implementation of this mission, Kataria said.
The delegation will participate in an international conference to be organised by the National Literacy Mission Authority of the Union Human Resource Development Ministry in New Delhi from July 18 to 20.
