A foreigner was today found dead on Howrah-Delhi railway track, around seven kilometres from central railway station here, police said.
Upon receiving information, Government Railway Police (GRP) found the body of the deceased identified as Evan Nan Waring (56), K Emanuel, SSP Kanpur said.
The documents recovered from his possession identify him as a British national. He may have met with a train accident as the body has deep wounds and a severed leg, he said.
Prima facie it appears that he may have been smoking at the gate of a moving train when he fell and was run over by another train, GRP Inspector, Tripurari Pandey, who visited the spot said, adding, a half-burnt cigarette was also found beside the body.
It seems that the deceased was onboard a Delhi-bound train, he said, adding, all railway stations have been informed to find out from where he boarded the train.
Meanwhile, the British embassy has been informed about the incident for identification of the deceased, the SSP said.
