Forensic Lab facilities to be upgraded: Govt

"Six new Regional Forensic Science Laboratories and 52 District Mobile Forensic Units will be established in different states under the proposal," he told the valedictory function of the All-India Forensic Sciences Conference here.

Elaborating the role of forensic science in investigation of serious crimes, Singh said new techniques and theories in the field of investigation and justice were being constantly developed.

Noting the importance of forensic science in investigation, he said, "Every field is getting hi-tech as perpetrators commit crime using state-of-the art equipment."

He said scientists and the professionals belonging to the forensic science have to bring innovations to meet challenges.

He said six District Mobile Forensic Units (DMFU) would be established in Jammu and Kashmir and facilities available to personnel of Central security agencies posted in the state enhanced.

Jammu and Kashmir Minister of State for Home Nasir Aslam Wani said quick investigation and fast trials were the need of the hour.

The three-day conference on forensic challenges ahead was organised by Directorate of Forensic Sciences Service, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, in collaboration with State Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory. Over 200 delegates from across the country and abroad participated.
