In a bid to bring youngsters closer to nature, Tamil Nadu Forest Department has announced a one-day trekking that would help them explore the pristine beauty of Shola forests of Kothagiri in neighbouring Nilgiris District.
The programme "Know Your Forests" takes students, in the age group of 14 to 18 and studying classes 8 to 12, for a one-day forest visit to 'Longwood Shola' on April 19.
The visit would include a short trek inside the forest, refreshing bath at Kallar River and a bird's eye view of the forest from Kodanadu view point, a forest official said today.
"This is an attempt to bring youngsters closer to nature and instil in them a love for forests" Coimbatore Circle Conservator of Forests Anwardeen said in a release.
The program is being organised by Coimbatore Forest Division and Nilgiris Forest Division in association with "Oli Awareness Movement", he said.
