A leopard, wreaking havoc in the Chiluatal area here since the past 15 days, today made the forest department team toil for over three hours before it was finally caught and taken away.
The locals heaved a sigh of relief earlier in the day when the leopard, which had been roaming about in different villages here, was caught after it entered the house of one Nabi Mohammad in Moharipur village and was locked into the bathroom by the vigilant residents, Divisional Forest 0fficer (DFO) Janardan Sharma said.
But when the forest department team reached the spot to take it away, it attacked them and escaped, the DFO said, adding, that it hid itself in a saw mill.
As the forest team was ill-equipped and did not have tranquilisers, it took about three hours to catch it with the help of villagers.
The leopard also attacked about four locals who sustained minor injuries.
