assaulted a forest guard causing him serious injuries in Wada area here as he tried to foil their attempt to smuggle wood logs, police said today.
The incident took place yesterday early morning when forest guard Ashish Shinde (38), was discharging duty at Gorhad Naka in Wada and tried to stop a van carrying wood logs, Wada police station inspector Sanjay Hazare said.
According to a complaint filed by Shinde, he was attacked by a group of men, some of them were on a motorcycle, trying flee away with wood logs in a van and was run over by the van when he tried to stop them, Hazare said, adding, the miscreants however, managed to decamp with the van.
A case has been registered against four persons, identified as Kishore Patil, Sachin Pathare, Sumit Pathare, Mahadeo Sutar and few others under IPC section 307 (attempt to murder), 353 (assault to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 427 (mischief and thereby causes loss or damage to the amount of fifty rupees or upwards) and relevant sections of Motors Vehicles Act, police said.
All the persons were at large and efforts were on to nab them, police added.
