Forest guards to use cycles for monitoring of Desert Park

Forest guards posted in Desert National Park here will now use cycles to keep watch in the park which is spread over a large area.
The guards so far had to walk around the area to keep watch but now they will be provided cycles to move in the area, deputy director of the park Anup K R said.
He informed that 30 guards in Sudasari, Chauhani, Sam, Barma, Ramdevra posts will be given cycles.
"They have also been given training to use GPS system and they will be also carrying GPS devices," he said.
The Desert National Park covers an area of 3162 square km of which 1900 square km is in Jaisalmer district and remaining is in Barmer district.
The commonly spotted birds in the park include various species ofeagles, vultures, falcons, harriers, kestrels, larks, shrikes,buzzards among others and it is home to some of the rarest species of birds like theGreat Indian Bustard.

The area of the park falls in the extreme hot and arid region of very low rainfall zone of the country.
