A senior Forest department officer has been hacked to death allegedly by unidentified persons near his official residence in Chhattisgarh's Raigarh district, with the police suspecting the role of illegal miners in the crime.
The incident took place last night in Forest Colony under Lailunga police station limits. Daulat Ram Lader (44), Forest Ranger of Lailunga forest in Raigarh, was attacked while he was taking a walk after having dinner, Dharamjaigarh Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) B S Paikra said today.
Lader was nearby his house when the accused attacked him with sharp edged weapons.
"They brutally attacked his throat. He died on the spot," the SDOP said.
Prima facie some illegal miners seem to be involved in the murder as Lader had recently seized a tractor transporting the illegally mined stone chips and taken a strong legal action in the case, he said.
Police are interrogating some suspects in this connection but are yet to make any arrest.
A case of murder has been registered, the SDOP said, adding efforts are on to arrest the culprits.
